Reinventing Retail

On March 15, 2019, New York will open Hudson Yards, the redevelopment site which allows New Yorkers to live, work and play. At 18 million square feet of commercial and residential space, the site will host 100 speciality stores and restaurants curated by Chef Thomas Keller. Yes, Neiman Marcus has landed (the department store’s first ever in New York City) and whilst you can expect the likes of Cartier, Zara, Jo Malone and Uniqlo present, it’s not just brand traction pulling in New York’s residents and tourists. Here, we explore just what else the Midtown site has to offer.

Temporarily known as The Vessel, the complex’s centrepiece is innovatively designed with 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs comprising of almost 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings; the landmark can be explored and climbed, offering remarkable views.

Located on the second floor of The Shops, you can find the Snark Park, a rotating exhibit of interactive installations that combine art and architecture. Merging different approaches to art, design and architecture, the installations take everyday surroundings and reimagine them into extraordinary monochromatic concepts.

Where the infamous New York High Line meets Hudson Yards and continuing the innovative, creative and artistic theme, The Shed encompasses all disciplines for all audiences. Entwining established and emerging artists in fields ranging from music genres to painting and digital media, the unprecedented moveable structure supports a range of inventive work under one roof.

If shopping, eating, culture and the arts does not attract the consumer to Hudson Yards, then perhaps the observation deck will; it is the highest man-made outdoor viewing area in the western hemisphere, offering a sky high view of New York from a hundred stories up.
